Charles Thompson Ltd’s History
Charles Thompson Ltd was founded in Rotherham, South Yorkshire in 1969 as a small fabricator that served the thriving British steel and coal industries – humble beginnings for what is now a global process plant engineering operation.
A decade later, the company diversified into supplying process equipment, manufacturing pressure vessels and pipework systems in Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel.
During the early 80s, we introduced heat exchanger manufacture to our portfolio, along with production of Nickel Alloys materials, reactive metals and clad material combinations. By the mid-80s, Charles Thompson had moved into supplying complete process skid packages to predominantly UK clients.
This changed in the early 90s, with the majority of equipment manufactured by Charles Thompson destined for export markets in the Middle East and Far East.
By the late 90s we had set up a pharmaceutical filtration and drying division to meet demand for the filter dryer servicing across Europe and the US.
Charles Thompson acquired Seal Engineering in 2009, specialists in bespoke fabrications, heavy precision machining and lifting equipment and which was rebranded as CTL Seal to reflect its integration into Charles Thompson’s operations.
Today Charles Thompson is a renowned international process plant manufacturer, established experts in the mechanical design and manufacture of bespoke pressure vessels, heat exchangers, filtration equipment, pipework systems and packaged process systems for high specification, demanding applications.
